Abstract

In January 2024, West Java experienced Year on Year (y-on-y) inflation of 3.02 percent. This figure is lower than national inflation of 5.27 percent. Some important points: West Java Inflation: 3.02 percent (y-on-y) Compared to: National: 5.27 percent (y-on-y) Java Island: 3.46 percent (y-on-y) Expenditure groups with the highest inflation: Food, drinks and tobacco: 6.51 percent Clothing and footwear: 1.26 percent The main cause: The increase in food prices is due to seasonal and distribution factors. Increase in fuel prices and basic electricity tariffs. Impact: Decreasing people's purchasing power: People need more money to buy basic necessities. Increased poverty: Inflation can push more people into poverty. Efforts made to control inflation: Government: Carrying out market operations to maintain price stability of basic commodities. Providing subsidies to poor and vulnerable communities. Regulate fuel prices and basic electricity tariffs. Bank Indonesia: Increase the benchmark interest rate to reduce demand and inflation. Even though West Java inflation is relatively low compared to the national level, ongoing efforts need to be made to maintain price stability and people's purchasing power. Synergistic efforts from the government, Bank Indonesia and the community are needed to achieve the set inflation target.
