Abstract

The quality of human life in West Java Province is still progressing, marked by the increase in the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2020 to 72.09, or an increase of 0.06 points compared to 2019 which was 72.03. In 2020, every newborn baby has the opportunity to live up to 73.04 years, 0.19 years longer than the previous year. Children aged 7 years have the opportunity to attend school for 12.50 years (almost equivalent to the educational period to complete a Diploma I level), 0.02 years longer than in 2019. Residents aged 25 years and over have on average studied for 8.55 years (almost equivalent to the educational period required to complete grade IX), 0.18 years longer than the previous year. In 2020, the people of West Java Province met their living needs with an average adjusted per capita expenditure (PPP) of 10,845 million rupiah per year, a decrease of 307 thousand rupiah compared to the previous year. Since 2016 West Java's HDI has been at "high" status, and is currently ranked 10th nationally, with West Java's HDI growth in 2020 amounting to 0.08 percent compared to 2019. Of the 27 districts/cities in West Java, Bandung City, Bekasi City and Depok City have "Very High" HDI status, while the other 24 districts/cities have "Medium" and "High" status. There was a decrease in HDI in 2020 in 14 districts/cities, while 13 other districts/cities experienced an increase.
