Abstract

The volume of air transportation passengers in West Java in November 2023 experienced a significant decrease of 34.08 percent compared to October 2023. This shows that aviation activity in West Java has not fully recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic. This decline was caused by several factors, including: Year-end holiday season: In October 2023, there are several national and school holidays, so many people choose to travel using private vehicles. Extreme weather: Extreme weather in several areas in West Java in October 2023 could cause flight disruptions. Tourism has not yet recovered: The tourism sector has not yet recovered due to the pandemic, which is still having an impact on flight demand. The impact of this decline: Decrease in airline revenue: Airlines experience a decline in revenue due to a reduction in the number of passengers. Reduced employment opportunities: A reduction in aviation activity may result in reduced employment opportunities in the aviation and tourism sectors. Efforts that need to be made to increase the volume of air transportation passengers again: Tourism promotion: The government and tourism businesses need to increase tourism promotion to attract tourists and increase demand for flights. Low-cost flights: Airlines can offer low-cost flights to attract more price-sensitive passengers. Charter flights: Charter flights for business or group tourism purposes can be an alternative to increase flight occupancy. Despite experiencing a decline, West Java needs to continue to strive to improve the competitiveness of its airports and airlines in order to attract more passengers. Improving airport infrastructure, quality flight services and competitive ticket prices are the keys to increasing the volume of air transportation passengers in West Java again.
