Abstract

West Java exports in December 2023 decreased by 4.39% compared to November 2023. The export value reached USD 2.87 billion, lower than the target of USD 3 billion. This decline was caused by several factors, including: Decline in global demand: Demand from West Java's main export destination countries has decreased. Supply chain disruptions: Supply chain disruptions due to global geopolitics and the COVID-19 pandemic are still impacting export activities. Rupiah exchange rate: A weakening rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar in December 2023 could reduce the competitiveness of export products. This reduction has an impact on: Decreased exporter income: Export-oriented business actors in West Java experienced a decrease in income. Reduced employment opportunities: A decline in exports may result in reduced employment opportunities in the manufacturing and logistics sectors. Contribution to West Java GDP: A decrease in exports can reduce the contribution of the trade sector to West Java's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Efforts that need to be made to increase exports: Export market diversification: Expanding export markets to non-traditional countries. Increasing product competitiveness: Increasing the quality and innovation of export products. Strengthening export logistics: Streamlining the flow of export goods and increasing logistics efficiency. Take advantage of international trade opportunities: Attend international trade shows and take advantage of free trade agreements. Despite experiencing a decline, West Java needs to continue to strive to improve its export performance in order to achieve targets and contribute to national economic growth. Joint efforts from the government, business actors and the community are needed to increase the competitiveness of West Java export products and penetrate the global market.
